CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris Counties was honored to receive a very generous donation of $1,000.00 from the “Nita DeWoody Memorial Fund”. Ms. DeWoody served on the CASA Board in 2014 and was very passionate about helping children that were removed from their families and placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect. Nita, a Physician Assistant, would sometimes witness signs of abuse or neglect during her medical care of patients. Christi Denney, Nita’s sister, held a 5k race in Pittsburg in memory of Nita and the results were incredible last year and the year before! Nita loved Christmas and the race was called “Jingle Bell Jog” in 2018 and held on Nita’s birthday. Funds were raised and distributed to Nita’s most favorite charities, CASA being one of them. CASA Executive Director, Michelle Cobern, remembers Nita DeWoody as a very caring person that wanted to help make children’s lives better. CASA is grateful for the leadership Nita provided during her term on the CASA Board and her generous spirit to help others. The funds will be used to assist with special needs for children in foster care. A HUGE THANK YOU to Nita’s sister and family for keeping her memory alive while assisting children in foster care with special needs.
