Local CASA Program presents at State CASA Board in Austin

CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris Counties was honored to present the mission moment to the Texas CASA Board in Austin.  The mission moment was about Courthouse Facility Dogs and the support it provides to children in the foster care system.  Enya, Texas CASA’s first Courthouse Facility Dog, was center stage at the board meeting as her handler, Michelle Cobern shared photographs of the amazing work Enya is doing in and out of the court room.  “Enya is the first for Texas CASA programs and we hope that the other 71 CASA programs will see the benefit as well” stated Cobern.  Enya visited the Texas CASA headquarters after the board meeting and presented the staff with baby stuffed Enya puppies.  As you can see Enya makes everyone smile, especially our CASA children who have very little to smile about.  Enya is a 2 1/2 year old Labrador Retriever from Canine Companions in Iriving.  “Enya has been breed and raised to do this type of work”, said Cobern.  When Enya see’s a child her eyes light up and so does the child’s.  It’s incredible to witness the change in a child when Enya arrives in the courtroom or during a parent child visit.  If you would like to know more about Enya or the work she is doing with children, please contact Michelle Cobern with CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris Counties at 903-767-3679 or visit our website at casatcm.org
